A New Red Thread Girl

Some of you may know the reason I chose to call my photography business Red Thread, but some of you may not...I have 3 wonderful, beautiful God-daughters - two of whom started off life in China; they were adopted by my husband's cousin and his wife.  After they brought their first little girl home, my daughter, Mikaela formed a real special bond with her.  It was almost as if we could SEE the red thread that connected the girls and thus, they became the original Red Thread girls.  (For more of the story...see here!)

Now we have a new Red Thread Girl to add to our collection!!  Her name is Jude and though we met her in Sacramento, she lives full time in Lebanon!

Jude's mom and dad are friends of ours, but our trip to California was the first time our kids had met theirs.  Instantly when I saw the two girls together, I knew they were made out of the same substance. Sure one is blond and burns easily and the other has dark hair and well....doesn't, but I am talking about the substance of their souls.

They both laugh easily and love deeply; when they walk they lean into each other, rubbing shoulders with the other one; they are silly and goofy one minute and deep and respectful the next.  As I watched the two of them interact, I could "see" the Red Thread that had invisibly connected them all their lives and miles and miles apart.

Of course, while we were together we HAD to do a little bit of a photo shoot (with the point-and-shoot)!!  We had so much fun with Jude and her family.  We didn't feel like guests, but really much more like family!!

So Jude gets my vote for the newest Red Thread Girl...she is classy and fabulous and has a heart connection with Mikaela!!  Welcome to the club, Jude...welcome to the club!!

The Gang's All Here!! {Puyallup Family Photography}

I had the privilege of hanging out with this AMAZING family last Tuesday and then promptly left for a road trip to California. They have been waiting patiently for a whole week for a sneak peak of some of their pictures....and here they finally are!!

Meet the two who started this whole gang. Sure they look sweet and mild-mannered, but wait until you meet their crew!!

What I love about families is that though we are all connected, each individual family has its own uniqueness at each stage of the journey...

( I promise that I have one of you all looking, but I LOVE this picture!! This is life with an almost 2 year old and a sweet, pretty, pink princess!!)

(And this is life as a newlywed couple....don't worry, their days of trying to corral kids are coming, I am sure!!)

The whole crazy, amazing bunch!! LOVE the jumping!! They were such good sports!!

Kids, kids, and more out!! That little guy is going to run straight off the computer screen into your lap!!

At the last minute I decided to bring a couch along and I am so glad I did. Is this not the best looking family??

And the little ones enjoyed my couch too....

So all I can say is that each person was a total trooper!! It was VERY hot, we walked quite a ways, little ones were sometimes falling apart and sometimes laughing hysterically, and yet through it all, everyone managed to maintain their sense of humor, their smiles and look FABULOUS while doing it!! this is my favorite picture of the day!! A TRUE family picture...parents and siblings doing what they always do!!

Thanks S Family!! I had so much FUN with you!! Your kids are beautiful; you grown ups are wonderful and Grandma and Grandpa....way to go for starting this whole thing!! I hope you had the most joyous time all together!!

Class of 2011 - Olivia {Graham Senior Photography}

I am so glad to introduce you to the first of the Class of 2011 to grace my camera.  Her name is Olivia and she is FABULOUS!!

All I can say is that I am so jealous of those LONG legs!!

Olivia's mom and sister joined us for the session and we all had lots of fun together!  In fact the venue is one of mom's favorite "hang outs"....she confessed that she loves to come to Windmill Gardens.  Now all she needs is a landscape artist to transfer all those great yard spaces to her house!!

I think Olivia is just beautiful...her eyes are amazing!!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this last set of pictures!!  We did a little cute and a little diva....all of which Olivia can totally pull off!!  She totally had the "smile with your eyes" down!!

Olivia...YOU ROCK!!!  It was so fun to photograph you...and you were such a good sport in the heat!!  I wish you the BEST of the best for your Senior Year!!

Sweet Connections {Seattle Family Photography}

I had the privilege of meeting a sweet family from Seattle last weekend.  Dad works out of town and since he was in town for a short time, they decided it was a good time to capture some of their "sweet connection" moments!!  We had a lot of fun but it was also a challenge to keep cool in this ever increasing temperature (OK...for Seattle it is HOT!!).  When I arrived, little Haven had the right idea!!

(I just love little baby toes....)

OK...who am I kidding??  I know this is a family session, but how could I resist taking a few solo pictures of this adorable little flower?

We got Mom and Dad into the mix and the following is a glimpse at their kissing, hugging, playing and connection moments.

(I usually like taking the picture from the other direction, but loved this look on Dad's face.  Every little girl should be able to see how much her Dad delights in her!!)

I had to put one in of them all looking at me!!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this picture....particularly little Haven's hand resting on her Dad's.

Yup, that's right....back to photographing this little girl all by herself!  I think this is my favorite picture!!

Haven was so glad to get home!!!

Thank you W Family!!  You were all so sweet and great to hang out with!!  And your little girl is amazing!!

Breathe {inspiration for wednesdays}

One of the things I find myself saying a lot lately (usually to my children) is "pay attention".  Now many times I am saying it because I am annoyed with something they left out or forgot to do or put in a place where it doesn't belong...but I even find myself saying it to myself for different reasons.

Sometimes I move so fast and with such efficiency that I forget to pay attention to everything else that is going on around me and in me.  Sometimes I move in "auto-pilot" mode with a kind of numbness and I forget to pay attention.

Paying attention means living with wonder and curiosity and hunger.  It means noticing how fresh brewed coffee smells first thing in the morning or how the hot cup warms my hands.  It means noticing the body language of people around me and listening to how they are saying things.  It means really tasting every bite of food and seeing all the colors in the evening sunset.  It even means noticing my moods, feelings and emotions as I encounter the moments of my life.

Paying attention is noticing.  Paying attention is waking up to all the life going on around us and choosing to enter into it rather than sitting on the sidelines.

Breathe, smile and go slowly.
