Breathe {inspiration for Wednesdays}

Monday was my 19th wedding anniversary!!  (Looking back, I am not sure we were old enough to get married...but maybe we were young and naive enough to plunge into this unknown adventure called marriage!!)  When we got married, we thought we were so similar.  As we've stayed married, we've realized how different we actually are....and how good that is!

For our anniversary I gave him the t-shirt you see in the pictures.  It says "I {brain} you"...instead of "I {heart} you"...and any of you who know David know just how appropriate that is.

In our marriage, David tends to live from his brain.  (It reminds me of Hermione's statement in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows..."Actually I am highly logical which allows me to look past extraneous detail to perceive clearly that which others overlook.")

I, on the other hand, tend to live from my heart.  I feel, intuit and imagine my way through life.  (More like Ron from the same movie as he explains about the light that entered his chest and he knew it was going to lead him back to Hermione).  Can you tell the latest movie I just watched?!?!

(The top picture is our "heart"...the bottom, our attempt at a "brain")

Now...to be sure this has lead to lots of moments of conflict in our lives, but it has also brought a lovely way of seeing the world to both of us.  He has taught me to embrace reason and logic and I have helped him to believe that there is a way of knowing that is mysterious...and that is OK.

Heart and Brain...Brain and Heart....both need each other to be complete.  Both need each other to be full.  Left alone, they are, by themselves, destructive forces.  Brought together, they create a whole new, life-giving element.

Heart and Brain have softened and tempered one another....they have grown our souls beyond the capacity we thought possible...they have made life MORE....they are in the process of completing us!

I am so grateful for these 19 years.  I am not the same person I was then...and that is good!

On a funny note, I heard someone say on TV the other day...."If you want an interesting relationship....stay in one."  I couldn't agree more!

Breathe, smile and go slowly.

(oh yeah...pictures courtesy of the offspring of Heart and Brain...way to go guys!!)
